Miami, Florida – The team from Ann Arbor Golf & Outing with professional Brian Stange and amateurs Jim Hawker, Nate Hawker and John Sxczypka successfully defended their championship by winning the 2022 Michigan PGA Trump Doral Pro Am presented by Anderson Ord Monday at the Trump National Doral Resort.
30 teams consisting of one Michigan PGA Professional and three amateurs participated this year in our third year in a row at Trump National Doral Resort. The resort continuers to provide an excellent venue for this Pro Am with exceptional golf and accommodations.
The event kicked off Friday night with the opening party and our sponsor Anderson Ord handing out the tee gifts for all the players. Jim Dougherty, the National Sales Manager with Anderson Ord was onsite Friday and Saturday to hand out the gifts and provide some warming refreshments on an uncharacteristically cold Saturday morning in South Florida.
The colder temps and high winds made for tough conditions on Saturday with half the field playing the famous Blue Monster and half on the Red Tiger Course. The team from Kubica Golf with professional Paul Lehnert and his amateur partners Tom Brown, Bob Gimby and Peter Schmidt had the low round on the Blue Monster with a (-6) under 138 in the 2 Net Best Ball Format. Brian’s team from Ann Arbor Golf & Outing had the low round on the Red Tiger with a (-4) under par 140 in the one gross and one net format.
Day 2 on Sunday saw some lower scores with the team from The Wyndgate with professional Matt Zavadil and his amateur partners Brian Donohoe, Dave Havens and Aaron Havens shooting the low round of the event with a score of (-15) under, 129 in the one gross / one net format on the Red Tiger.
Brian’s team was able to really extend their lead with the low round of (-13) under on the Golden Palm in Round 2 on the 2 Net Best Ball format there.
The event wrapped up on Monday with teams playing both the Blue Monster and Golden Palm. The teams of professional Dave Kendall from the Kendall Academy and his amateur partners Steve Davis, Larry Denton and Randy Kummer along with the team from Brookwood Golf Club with professional Kevin Kaczocha and his amateur partners Craig Antenucci, Corey Helferich and Joe Priest had the low rounds of the day on the Blue Monster with scores of (-11), 129.
Zavadil’s team from The Wyndgate made a strong run at the Overall Championship with the low round of the day on the Golden Palm with a (-9), 133 but fell just short finishing 5 shots behind Stange’s team from Ann Arbor Golf & Outing as they picked up their back-to-back titles in this event.
