Player Development Coordinator & PGA REACH Michigan Activities Director

Salary: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 Per Year / Total Anticipated Compensation Up To: $45,000.00

Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

This position shall be responsible for the coordination and implementation of Section events and initiatives to expose the game of golf to a maximum number of people. This position is also responsible for increasing and operating PGA REACH Michigan activities. In these efforts, this position will be required to build critical-path partnerships with all Section stakeholders to include PGA members, facilities, allied associations, and the likeMeasures for success will include successful execution of PR events, coordination of growth of the game events and activities, and PGA REACH Michigan events.

The player development area of this position will be responsible for the implementation of strategies, initiatives, and programming related to Growth of the Game on the local level. Creating partnerships and communicating with all stakeholders is vital and measures for success will include awareness, adoption, participation, satisfaction, and measurable movement towards the Section’s Growth of the Game vision.

In addition to player development, this position will offer implementation and activation support for additional Section programs and services including, but not limited to, Member education, tournaments, social media and marketing, and fundraising.

Organization: The Michigan PGA, located in East Lansing (Bath), MI is one of 41 Sections of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. The PGA of America, formed in 1916, has grown into the world’s largest working sports organization with more than 27,000 members and apprentices. Its mission is to promote enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to the game’s growth by providing services to golf professionals and the industry.  The Michigan PGA was established in 1922 and consists of approximately 800 Members and associates.


Experience Required

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Direct supervisory duties with PGA WORKS Fellow and Section interns as necessary.   

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Responsible for managing, maintaining and functioning within assigned budgets.

POSITION/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position must be able to travel for extended periods of time in various modes of transportation.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The employee must be able to drive the company vehicle/van and/or drive to and from various locations throughout the Section.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. /B.S.) in Business Administration, Marketing or related field highly preferred
  • Golf industry experience – sales, management, administration, tournament operations or similar preferred
  • PGA Member or Associate in good standing preferred

Essential Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Researches, develops, and executes the agreed plan to meet Section objectives regarding initiatives and programs related to growth of the game and player development.
  • Member Engagement: Gather and report trends and success stories to inspire Members; search for Members who might benefit from initiatives and programs and maximize awareness, adoption and participation; provide information/education regarding initiatives and programs through direct and indirect communication.
  • Become the Player Development resource for Section Members and facilities.
  • Work in close cooperation with PGA national Regional League Manager on scheduling, planning and implementing events.
  • Coordinate and assist in the administration of the Section Adult Player Development and Junior Golf Grant Program.
  • Manage and supervise the preparation and execution of Drive, Chip & Putt events.
  • Lead the recruitment for Section facilities to participate in PGA Junior League and work with national staff to organize leagues and post season events.
  • Work with Section Growth of the Game committee to implement consumer events involving adults, youth, men, women, diversity, etc…
  • Act as staff liaison for the Growth of the Game Committee.
  • Support communication and public awareness activities by attending Association, Section, and Chapter meetings, trade shows, conferences, and other marketing events as well as produce support material for Members and facilities.
  • Manage awareness, adoption, and participation rates and adjusts strategies and plans accordingly to ensure success.
  • Plan, create, and implement PGA REACH Michigan programs, to include activities and programming within the three pillars of focus – junior golf, military and inclusion.
  • Direct the creation of annual fundraising plans to expand the scope and effectiveness of PGA REACH Michigan.
  • When necessary, assist with the daily administration of Section office and related activities.
  • Along with other Section staff, nurture and create relationships with media, marketing, and sponsor representatives.
