Rochester Hills, MI — The stage was set as the sun rose over the Oakland University Golf and Learning Center. Sixty-four teams of two Michigan PGA Professionals showed competitive grit in a 36-hole showdown across the renowned R&S Sharf and Katke-Cousins Golf Courses.
This event, held on Monday, May 12th, showcased the skill and resilience of Michigan’s PGA Professionals. The Katke-Cousins course, known for its challenging layout and exceptional views, certainly pushed competitors to their limits. While a bit more forgiving, R&S Sharf offered another 18 holes of demanding play and natural beauty.
Leading the field at 9-under (63) after Round 1 were Brian Cairns, representing Fox Hills Learning Center, and Scott Hebert, representing Traverse City Golf & Country Club.
As the final moments of Round 2 approached, tensions rose with a potential playoff between the top two teams appearing likely. In the end, Ryan Bayer and Jimmy Wisinski of Kent Country Club battled their way up from T5 to win the championship by a single stroke. Bayer and Wisinski finished with a gross total of 14-under, carding a 65 on Katke-Cousins and a 64 on R&S Sharf.
As if the day wasn’t exciting enough, Dean Kolstad recorded a hole-in-one with his 7-iron on the 7th hole at R&S Sharf. Congratulations, Dean!
Most importantly, we would like to thank our host site, Oakland University Golf & Learning Center. The staff and club provided exceptional service, and both courses were in fantastic condition.
We also extend our gratitude to our title sponsor, Levelwear, and presenting sponsors Bushnell and Winston Collection. We truly appreciate their continued support of the Michigan PGA tournament programs—events like this would not be possible without them!
