The top playing Michigan Senior PGA Professionals were back in Northern Michigan this week, as Hidden River Golf & Casting Club in Brutus ,MI played host to the Michigan Senior PGA Championship. 61 Michigan PGA Professionals teed it up on Monday and Tuesday to compete for the Michigan Senior PGA Championship Title as well as 9 qualifying spots for the 34th   Senior PGA Professional National Championship on October 26-29 at PGA Golf Club in Port St Lucie ,Fl.

After leading by one shot heading into round 2 Jim Deiters from Midland Country Club closed with his second consecutive round of 69 to finish at -6 under for the tournament, good enough for a one-shot victory and his second Michigan Senior PGA Championship victory.

Gary Lewandowski from Tullymore Golf Resort made quite the charge shooting the low round of the event with his 66 yesterday but fell just one shot behind finishing in second place alone.

Finishing third, just two shots back and (-4) for the tournament was Scott Hebert with rounds of 71 and 69. Scott is exempt for the Senior PGA National Championship this October after winning this event in 2019.

Jim said that the key this week was staying patient as it was hard to get close to a lot of the hole locations with the firm greens. It was a great third shot from a tough lie in the bunker at the par five 17th hole to a couple feet that secured the birdie and helped him move one ahead of Gary who was already in the clubhouse at -5 under for the tournament that helped him clinch the victory.

Joining Jim Deiters, Gary Lewandowski and Scott Hebert and representing the Michigan Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship will be Matt Zavadil, PGA Life Member, Chad Kurmel ,Assistant Golf Coach at  Michigan State University, Kevin Muir from The Wyndgate, Lee Houtteman from Leland Country Club ,Shaun Bezilla from Harbor Point Golf Club ,Steve Wakulsky from Owosso Country Club and George Bowman from Oakhurst Golf & Country Club.

In the super senior 70 and older division, it was PGA Life Member and Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member Randy Erskine that took home top honors with rounds of 75 on Monday and 74 on Tuesday.
