Harbor Springs, MI – 16 year old Konner Kubica and his PGA Professional Frank McAuliffe from Meadowbrook Country Club overcame a crowded leaderboard of Michigan’s top golfers to win their first Adidas State Pro Am at The Highlands on Tuesday !
119 teams of one PGA Professional and one amateur teed it up on Monday and Tuesday using the Ross & Heather Courses at The Highlands in this historic state best ball event that started in 1935.
Frank and Konner went out Monday and shot a -8 under par round of 64 on The Heather, which put them tied for the lead heading into Tuesday with the teams of PGA Professional Benny Cook from Quail Ridge GC and his amateur partner Matt Ostby and PGA Professional Jackson Davison from Harbor Shores Golf Club and his amateur partner and brother Trent Division.
This was a very familiar position for Frank and Konner as they shared the lead in 2023 heading into the final round and playing in the final group. At one point on Tuesday we had 12 teams within 2 shots of the lead.
Jackson Davison, playing in the second to last group made a 40 foot putt on Hole #18 of the Ross for his team to give them the clubhouse lead at -15 under for the tournament.
This proved to not be enough however as Konner birdied both #16 and #17 and with a solid par on #18 gave them the one-shot victory.
The low round on The Heather on Tuesday was PGA Professional Andrew Slade from Prestwick Village Golf Club and his amateur partner Chris Cunningham, they finished two back at -14 under.
Congratulations to Jordan Young, PGA Professional from Jordan Young Golf with his hole in one on Tuesday on Hole #4 of The Heather.
Frank, who considers Konner as one of his hardest working students he has ever had now gets his name on this historic trophy with the likes of Al Watrous, Walter Burkemo, Horton Smith, Randy Erskine and many other Hall of Famers. This is Frank’s second time winning this event as we won in 2007 with his son.
The Highlands always proves to be such a great venue for this event. The golf courses were in amazing condition, and it was nice to see some of the renovations that have been made on the Ross.
Thank you as well to our sponsor Adidas. They were onsite and set up a mobile pro shop for all the players providing them with a tournament gift.
