The Yamaha Golf Cars Plus Senior Open is all wrapped up at Bedford Valley Golf Club. Unfortunately, heavy overnight rainfall meant the final round was cancelled making the event a single-day 18-hole competition.
Huge congratulations to Tom Werkmeister of Hudsonville who fired a brilliant 8-under-par 64 yesterday morning to win the 2024 Yamaha Golf Cars Plus Senior Open by 3 strokes.
Werkmeister is a Golf Professional and Michigan Golf Hall of Fame Member. He also recently competed in the U.S. Senior Open Championship at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island. Tom picks up $2,400 for this first place finish and his second Michigan Senior Open title.
Doug Hoey, an amateur from West Olive and Wuskowhan Players Club member, is our runner-up after shooting a 5-under-par 67 and Peter Mogg, PGA Professional at Plum Hollow Country Club, finished in 3rd place with a 4-under-par 68.
It was a close competition at the top of the leaderboard in our Super Senior’s division. The cancellation of the final round sees Eric Cleasby, an amateur from Kalamazoo, and Greg Zeller, an amateur from Jackson, share the victory with two fantastic scores of 2-under-par 70.
James Hegarty, an amateur from Grand Rapids, and Randy Lewis, an amateur from Alma and Pine River Country Club member, finished in a tie for 3rd position falling just 1 stroke short at 1-under-par 71.
A massive thank you goes out to Yamaha Golf Cars Plus for their continuous support of the event and to everyone at Bedford Valley Golf Club for their hospitality and efforts these past few days with uncontrollable weather conditions.
Thank you to everyone who travelled to and competed in this year’s event and congratulations again to Tom Werkmeister, our 2024 Yamaha Golf Cars Plus Senior Open champion.
