The top playing Michigan Senior PGA Professionals were back in Northern Michigan this week, except at a new venue. Hidden River Golf & Casting Club in Brutus ,MI played host to the Michigan Senior PGA Championship this week with 74 Michigan PGA Professionals teeing it up on Monday and Tuesday to compete for the Michigan Senior PGA Championship Title as well as 9 qualifying spots for the 32nd  Senior PGA Professional National Championship on October 15 – 18 at PGA Golf Club – Wannamaker / Ryder Courses. This event was previously held at Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club in Harbor Springs the past seven years.

Heading into the final round of the tournament there were ten players within five shots of the lead, all chasing the first-round leader Scott Hebert from Traverse City Golf & Country Club. Scott birdied the final 3 holes on Monday to finish at (-3) ,69 ,good enough for a 2 shot lead heading into the final round.

Scott continued his steady play into Tuesday and followed up his 69 with a (-1) under par round of 71 for a 140 total (-4) , good enough for a 3 shot victory and his first Michigan Senior PGA Championship title. Coming in second with a 143 total was Lee Houtteman from Leland Country Club.

Joining Scott Hebert and representing the Michigan Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship will be Lee Houtteman, Ron Beurmann from the Country Club of Jackson, Jim Deiters from Midland Country Club, Joe Pollack from Yamaha Golf Cars Plus, Bob Ackerman from the Bob Ackerman Golf Academy, Jeff Rachar from Forest Lake Country Club, Kevin Muir from The Wyndgate, Brian Cairns from Fox Hills Learning Center and Al Kuhn from the Fountains Golf & Banquet Center. Al secured the last spot in a 4 person playoff that lasted 3 holes.

In the super senior 70 and older division, it ended in a tie at the top with Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members Randy Erskine and Lynn Janson both finishing at a two round total of 149.
